With or Without Space?

~May be~ I will come after work (nonstandard).
Maybe I will come after work (standard).

I ~maybe~ late to work (nonstandard).
I may be late to work (standard).

Note that “maybe” is an adverb which means “possibly”, while “may be” is a verb phrase which means “might be”.
