Pronouncing Suffixes
- When a verb ends in a vowel sound or a voiced consonant sound such as /b, g, m/, the past tense marker is pronounced as /d/. Examples:
Vowed /vaud/
Lagged /læɡd/
Slammed /slæmd/. - When a verb ends in a voiceless consonants such as /p, k, f/, the past tense marker is pronounced as /t/.
Examples:
Slapped /slæpt/
Lacked /lækt/
Laughed /lɑːft/ - When a verb ends in /t/ and /d/, the past tense marker is pronounced as /id/
Examples:
Landed /lændid/
Planted /plɑːntid/
