Note that an ornamental tablet, typically of metal, porcelain, or wood, that is fixed to a wall or other surface in commemoration of a person or event is a plaque while a plague is a contagious bacterial disease characterised by fever and delirium.

The pastor placed his book on the ~podium~ (nonstandard).
The pastor placed his Bible on the lectern (standard). A tall stand with a sloping top to hold a book or notes, from which someone, typically a preacher or lecturer, can read while standing up is a lectern while a podium is a small platform on which a person may stand to be seen by an audience, as when making a speech or conducting an orchestra.
