AN INDIGENE or AN INDIGENT?

~Indigents~ must be given priority in their states (nonstandard).
*Indigenes* must be given priority in their states (standard).
An INDIGENE is a native of a place.

The government should have a provision for ~indigenes~ so that they don’t become a liability to the country (nonstandard).
The government should have a provision for *indigents* so that they don’t become a liability to the country (standard).
An INDIGENT is a needy or very poor person.
