Sam and *they* came here yesterday (standard).
Subjective pronouns (I, we, he, she, they) are used when they perform an action and come at the beginning of the sentence.

I saw you and ~they~ at the party (nonstandard).
I saw you and *them* at the party (standard).
The objective forms (me, us, him, her, them) are used when they come after action verbs.
