DOWRY or PRIDE PRICE?
Any man should be willing to pay a woman’s ~dowry~ (nonstandard).
Any man should be willing to pay a woman’s *bride price* (standard).
Bride price means money, property, or services given by a bridegroom to the kinsmen of his bride in order to establish his rights over the woman.
Her husband started his business with the ~bride price~ she paid (nonstandard).
Her husband started his business with the *dowry* she paid (standard).
A woman’s dowry is the money and goods which, in some cultures, her family gives to the man that she marries.
