I met the ~couples~ when I traveled to London; both of them are amazing (nonstandard).
I met the *couple* when I traveled to London; both of them are amazing (standard).
A couple is two people who are married, living together, or having a sexual relationship.

We are expecting two ~couple~ tonight (nonstandard).
We are expecting two *couples* tonight (standard).
Couples are four or more people who are married or in a romantic relationship.
