Common Errors

Make sure you don’t ~lose guard~ in all you do (nonstandard).
Make sure you don’t *drop your guard* in all you do (standard).
If you lower your guard, let your guard down, or drop your guard, you relax when you should be careful and alert, often with unpleasant consequences.

This boy has ~strong head~ (nonstandard).
This boy is *strongheaded* (standard).
This boy is *headstrong* (standard).
If you refer to someone as headstrong, you are slightly critical of the fact that they are determined to do what they want.
