English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (Dr GAB)
LAUNCH or LUNCH?
I will be attending the book ~lunch~ (nonstandard).
I will be attending the book *launch* (standard).
A launch is an event to celebrate or introduce something new. Note that while launch can be used in the progressive form as a verb, it cannot be used in the progressive form as a noun:
We are *launching* the book tomorrow. ✅
Tomorrow is the book ~launching~. ❌
We should go for ~launch~ now (nonstandard).
We should go for *lunch* now (standard).
Lunch is the meal that you have in the middle of the day.
