CONFIDANT or CONFIDANTE?
Everyone knows his mother is his only confidant (correct).
Everyone knows his mother is his only confidante (more appropriate).
Someone’s confidante is a woman who they are able to discuss their private problems with. Note that “confidante” is pronounced exactly like “confidant”.
She would rather have a man as her confidante (nonstandard).
She would rather have a man as her confidant (standard).
Someone’s confidant is a man who they are able to discuss their private problems with.
