PLAGUE or PLAQUE?

There are several ~plagues~ in his office (nonstandard).
There are several *plaques* in his office (standard).
A plaque is a flat piece of metal, stone, wood, or plastic with writing on it that is attached to a wall, door, or other object. Note that the letter a in plaque is pronounced like the one in cat or cart.

Thankfully we survived the ~plaque~ (nonstandard).
Thankfully we survived the *plague* (standard).
A plague is a very infectious disease that spreads quickly and kills large numbers of people. Note that the a plague is pronounced like the a in plate.
