SLANDER, LIBEL, SEDITION
Slander is an untrue spoken statement about someone which is intended to damage their reputation:
You shouldn’t take it likely; what he wrote amounts to ~slander~ (nonstandard).
You shouldn’t take it likely; what he said amounts to *slander* (standard).
Libel is a written statement which wrongly accuses someone of something, and which is therefore against the law:
That counts as written ~slander~ (nonstandard).
That counts as *libel* (standard).
Sedition is speech, writing, or behaviour intended to encourage people to fight against or oppose the government:
The government charged him with *sedition* (standard).
