Hypothetical Past or Subjunctives
The subjunctive is the form of verb that is often used to express wishes, uncertainty, possibility or condition or imagined situation:
a. It’s time/ it’s high time/it’s about time
b. As if
c. I wish
d. I would rather/ I’d rather
e. If only
f. Suppose/ Supposing
If the sentence refers to an action in the present, the verb is given the past tense, e.g.:
It’s time we STOPPED
I would rather you COOKED
If only I COULD see him
