PRONOUNCING PLURAL MARKERS
1. When a singular noun ends in a vowel sound or a voiced consonant such as /g/ /b/ and /m/, the s plural marker should be pronounced as /z/:
Boys /bɔɪz/
Legs /legz/
Herb /hɜːbz/
Slum /slʌmz/
2. When a singular noun ends in a voiceless consonant such as /p/, /t/ and /k/, the s plural marker should be pronounced as /s/:
Taps /tæps/
Cat /kæts/
Lakes /læks/
3. When a singular noun ends in a hissing sound such as /s/, the -es plural is pronounced as /iz/:
Classes /klæsiz/
Churches /tʃɜːtʃiz/
Clash /klæʃiz/
