When people or things revert to a previous state, system, or type of behaviour, they go back to it.
We will ~refund your money ~back~ to you (nonstandard).
We will *refund your money* to you (standard).
He ~returned back~ to base sometime last year (nonstandard).
He *returned* to base sometime last year (standard).
Note, however, that you can *talk back* at someone and this means to reply rudely:
Children who talk back are considered disrespectful. ✅
